Paper Studies (2012)
9 Fibre Based Silver Gelatin Handprints, 305 x 406mm
Paper Studies (i) explores a fascination with the state of suspension: its relationship with time, space and the euphoria associated with such conditions. Paper Studies considers the gestures of a sheet of paper, juxtaposed into suspension with thread, as an allegory for existential thought.
Employing a systematic methodology in a controlled environment, the photographs begin to undermine our understanding between reality and the still image. The repeated motif is employed as a distancing of the relationship between the reconstructed and reenacted photograph.
Paper Studies seeks the transformation of a singular moment into the forming and reconstruction of the event itself. This paradigmatic unperformed gesture is confused with its relation to what is ‘not anymore’ and ‘not yet’.
